Introduction

I created this weblog in reaction to the interest in personal protection and security that arose this year after the judges and lawyers were attacked and some were killed.  The American Bar Association wrote a story on the issue, Congress got involved, and I was interviewed for security and protections tips.  Later, when I offered a simple list of personal protection tips I was overwhelmed by the interest.  The contents here will be based on that list of tips, plus ongoing discussions with other professional and the contributions of you, my readers.  I hope you find it interesting and useful, and that you never need them.

Personal Protection is a Choice

Even before a threat materializes, personal protection should be built in to your lifestyle choices.  I will be discussing individual tips to help control risk in subsequent postings but one thing should be clear from the outset:  You control your own life and your choices will expose you to more (or less) risk.  Examples of these choices (which are *not* relevant to personal protection) are the type of car you drive, whether or not you speed, etc.  To practice personal protection requires thought–I have nothing against taking risks.  I object to taking unconsidered risks.  If you know you are risking something you can prepare for it.
